Wicked is a Steel Tower Launch Roller Coaster Manufactured by ZIERER Karussell- und Spezial-
maschinenbau GmbH & Co. KG and located at Lagoon Amusement Park.

Ride Details
Wicked features single-car trains that seat two rows of four riders. It uses LSMs (Linear Synchronous Motors) to launch riders 90&deg; straight up its 110 foot tower. It actually has two separate LSM launches, one before the tower, and one straight up it. This is immediately followed by a 90&deg; drop straight down the other side of the tower. The ride is launched out of a tunnel. Originally there was a "boom" sound effect played when the train was launched, but it is no longer used. The ride officially has an "Industrial Factory" theme.

The ride travels through an Immelmann Turn and a Heartline Roll. The ride is slowed considerably during its safety brake run and travels through a section which consists of two compact vertical turns that simulate the half-pipe movements that snowboarders or skateboarders make. The tunnel at the end of the ride was originally planned to include a water effect as the car entered the tunnel. You can still see the hardware installed that would have provided the effect, but it has never been used.

Wicked does not have over the shoulder style restraints which are found on most launch roller coasters. The ride instead uses a unique "laptray" lapbar and leg restraint that locks the lower half of the rider's body in place. This allows the upper half to freely move and adds to the thrill of the overall experience.

Seating
Single riders and groups are separated and loaded onto the train in a way that attempts to fill most or all of the train's seats. Riders between 46' and 50' are allowed to ride using a special seat insert that effectively makes the seat smaller. These inserts can be added or removed from any of the train's seats as necessary.

Rollbacks
On rare occasions, Wicked's trains do not make it all the way over the tower after being launched. When this happens the ride is designed so that the trains will roll backwards into the launch tunnel where they are safely stopped and re-launched after some adjustments.

Construction
Wicked was built in 2007. At the time it was the most expensive ($10 million), fastest (55 mph) and tallest (110 feet) roller coaster at Lagoon. Cannibal has since surpassed Wicked in all of these areas, though Wicked still exerts more G-forces on riders than Cannibal (4.85). The ride was built by Zierer, and was co-designed by Lagoon's head engineer Dal Freeman and was the first roller coaster of its type built. The ride was built on what used to be part of the south parking lot. It was the first steel Roller Coaster to be custom designed for Lagoon.

Manufacturing Problems
After the assembly of Wicked was nearly complete, some of the weldments in a majority of the Columns, Manufactured by Stakotra Manufacturing S.r.o., were found to be inadequate. Most of the ride was then dismantled while Lagoon and Intermountain Lift fixed the Problems, leading to a several month delay in the ride's opening.

The Turn of the Century is one of those rides that mix relaxing with thrilling. The gentle rotation of the ride with the swinging motion over the lagoon is great. And with this being one of the few rides on the park with music it really adds to the fun of riding.

Often known to guests as the swings this ride was installed the same year as the Centennial Screamer to celebrate Lagoon's 100 years in operation.

If you want to ride this ride make sure you wear shoes that protect the toes. Lagoon has a very strict policy about open-toed shoes on this ride and the Paratrooper. Take tennis shoes with your or wear sandals that cover the toes.

This ride went through a small change in 2004 when they added double seats to the ride.

If you are looking for a unique ride that is definitely well worth the money you pay, then the Catapult is the ride for you. Imagine being able to climb into a large rock and being launched from a huge sling shot. This is basically the idea behind the ride.

You and another rider climb into what is known as the Capsule, a ball that is attached to two steel ropes. The ride operators lock you into the the ball and prepare you to launch. When the ride is ready, your ball is released from the latch holding you to the ground and you are shot up well over 200 feet. Sounds like fun? You bet it is!

This ride is fast, exciting, and well worth it. You get to experience forces similar to what astronauts feel when they are launched into outer space. When you reach the maximum height of the ride, you feel weightless for a quick second before you are pulled back down to earth. The ride ends with some bounces and then you are free to kiss the ground.

Jet Star 2 is Lagoon's oldest steel roller coaster currently in operation.

Ride Details
Jet Star 2 is a steel roller coaster Manufactured by the Anton Schwarzkopf Company. It is the only Jet Star 2 model of roller coaster currently operating in the United States.

The ride features a spiral lift hill that keeps the ride compact, while also giving riders 360&deg; views during the ascent. The ride travels through a series of sudden drops and tight helices. The layout of the cars is not that of a standard roller coaster, but more like a log flume. Each car has three long seats that fit two to three people. Riders sit single file, and it is required that at least two people sit in each seat. There is no single rider line, so you must have a partner to ride. The inline seating means that the car is quite slim, which allows it to perform some very tight turns and banks.

The ride's final brake section brings the car to a very abrupt stop. Reactions to the brake section like those posted in the POV video below are typical. Jet Star 2 is the only roller coaster at Lagoon that loads and unloads from two different locations.

Background
The Jet Star 2 was originally opened as the star midway attraction of Expo '74, the 1974 world's fair held in Spokane, Washington. At the time, the ride was considered world-class and proved extremely popular with fair-goers. When the fair ended most of the midway was moved overseas, but the Jet star 2 was purchased by Lagoon. It began operation in Utah in 1976.

The coaster's predecessor, the Jet Star, can be found at various parks around the world. There has never been a Jet Star at Lagoon.

Ride Changes
Color Schemes
The ride has had several color schemes since it was built.

Era !! Track !! Supports !! Cars
At the '74 Expo || Orange || Tan || Blue & white stripes
1976 opening until about 1980 || Orange || Light Blue || Blue & white stripes
About 1980-2004 || Orange || Yellow || Stylized yellow, blue and orange stripes
2005-present || Yellow || Red || Black with purple, red and yellow gradient flames.

1998 Control System
In 1998 the ride's control system was completely redesigned and rebuilt by Setpoint.

2004 Re-manufacturing
At the end of the 2004 season Jet Star was closed and dismantled. Parts of the ride, including some track pieces were re-manufactured and repainted. The ride remained under refurbishment until the middle of the 2005 season when the ride was reopened. The ride is said to run much more smoothly after being refurbished. The new paint job makes the ride stand out prominently on the north midway.

Commemorative Beer
No-Li Brewhouse in Washington state produces a beer called "Jet Star Imperial IPA" as part of its Expo Series. The beer commemorates Jet Star 2's time at the World's Fair. The back label of the beer reads:
<div style="color:#333333;margin-left:5px;font-size:.9em;border:solid;border-width:1px;padding:10px;width:50%;">
Remember that first thrill ride and mind altering experience? Jet Star Imperial IPA shatters your senses in a way that has not been seen since Spokane's '74 World Expo. Jet-Star is a roller-coaster ride of double dosed hops, packing 90 IBU's and 8.1% alc/vol. One heck of a flashback.

In 2005 Lagoon decided to increase their roller coaster count by adding a new inverted roller coaster known as the Bat. This brought a wave of excitement through the Lagoon fan base because this would be the first inverted roller coaster in the state of Utah. Anticipation for the new ride started out high, but slowly went away as more and more information was released about the ride before it's opening.

Due to all of the hype, when the ride finally opened there were many people that expressed their disappointment. Although it was a new coaster and an inverted one, coaster enthusiasts quickly noticed that the ride was not very long and didn't travel very fast. But that doesn't stop many people from riding the ride each day.

The Bat was Manufactured by Vekoma Rides Manufacturing B.V. and the Model is known officially as a Suspended Family Coaster 342M and uses Vekoma's MK-707 Track System. Most rides labeled as "family" are designed to allow parents to ride with their young children. The Bat is no exception to this rule. Younger riders and parents now have an opportunity to enjoy a roller coaster together. This is great for those little kids that are tired of Puff and want to move a step up.
Jumping Dragon is a Chinese Dragon themed family ride located at Lagoon.

Ride Details
Riders sit in a large circular dragon train that appears to chase its own tail. After your lapbars are lowered, the ride accelerates and speeds around in a circle at speeds of up to 13 rpm (15 mph), flowing over hills and dales up to about six feet in height. The ride then slows down and moves backwards for the remainder of the ride. The upper part of the ride is enclosed in a highly ornate 40 foot tall pagoda.

Jumping Dragon is located in the center of the former Putter Around the Park mini-golf course.

Compared to Musik Express.
This type of ride is commonly known as a Himalaya Type Ride, although the ride's manufacturer, ZIERER, calls it a Dragon Ride. The ride is very similar to the Musik Express at Lagoon. One notable difference is that Jumping Dragon begins moving in reverse about half-way through the ride. Musik Express did this in the past as well, but now it only travels forwards. Jumping Dragon also features divided seats with individual lap bars while Musik Express features open seats, seatbelts and a more simple, shared lap bar. The experience of being "crushed" up against your ride partner(s) that is common on Musik Express, will not occur on Jumping Dragon.

Theme
Jumping Dragon has a Chinese Dragon theme and travels through a giant pagoda. Behind the ride lies a tunnel that looks like a giant dragon that park guests can walk through. To the west is a garden where parents can rest and watch their kids ride. The ride queue line features detailed sculptures that fit well with the theme.
Puff the little Fire Dragon (often shortened to Puff) is the smallest roller coaster at Lagoon. It is located in Kiddieland, but can be ridden by people of all ages. It is named after both Colossus The Fire Dragon which was installed two years prior to Puff, and the Peter Paul and Mary song "Puff, the Magic Dragon". When the ride was installed it took the place of the Kiddie Coaster that sat in the same spot. Puff was manufactured by ZIERER Karussell- und Spezialmaschinenbau GmbH & Co. KG (ZIERER), and is a "Tivoli" model.

Puff features an oval track layout that travels past a variety of rocky terrain and plant life. The ride is themed to a voyage by a little dragon through an enchanted forest. The theme is inspired by the song the coaster is partially named after. The ride originally included a water feature. The ride circles the track three times before coming to a stop.

Puff's dragon theme is common among smaller roller coasters, but is very uncommon for Tivoli roller coasters. The basic theme for Tivoli roller coasters is a ladybug, and if you look closely you can see the shape of a ladybug's face on some of the ride's cars.

Centennial Screamer was one of two rides installed at Lagoon in 1987 to celebrate the park's 100th operating season.

The ride consists of 20 cars around a wheel. When you first enter the ride the wheel is in a horizontal position. Once the doors are shut and the latches checked the ride begins to rotate in a clockwise direction gaining speed until riders are held in place by centrifugal force. At this point the arm attached to the wheel begins to slowly raise to a vertical position (87°) sending riders upside down.

While the ride looks very repetitive and nauseating, the ride experience is very different. Most passengers find the ride very enjoyable and smooth.

One of the most interesting aspects to this ride is the lack of safety harnesses. A couple of bars on both sides helps give the feeling of being "locked in", but there are no seat belts or lap bars. Through some well designed engineering, a persons body weight and the centrifugal force in motion are almost equal creating a feeling of weightlessness while ensuring that you remain in your seat.

The ride is commonly called just "Screamer", "You've got to be kidding me", and "No way, I'm not riding that!".

In 2008 Lagoon repainted the space backdrop adding the name of the ride to it and a spaceship. They also removed the lighted Screamer sign that used to sit on top of the backdrop.

Log Flume is a water ride located in Pioneer Village.

Ride Details
Riders travel in a log-shaped boat around a level tree-lined waterway at a slow speed. After a minute and a half journey, the boat is lifted to the top of a 30-foot hill by a conveyor belt. At the top of the hill the boat suddenly tips downward into a water-filled chute and races back down, causing a large splash when it re-enters the waterway. Riders are seated inline in two seats that fit 2-3 people. This seating arrangement is similar to Jet Star 2's.

Background
The ride was manufactured by Arrow Development in 1968 and was originally installed at Pixieland in Oregon in 1969, and was bought by Lagoon and installed in 1975 after Pixieland had closed down.

Only Arrow ride at Lagoon
Despite the fact that Arrow Development, Later Arrow Dynamics, relocated close to Lagoon, this is the only ride currently at Lagoon known to have been built by the company.

Theme
Much of the ride's rustic theming was not originally part of the ride when it was in Oregon. When Lagoon installed the ride they added split-log paneling to the ride's edges, log-cabin like structures and a wooden waterway with a waterwheel that serves no functional purpose. The waterwheel is actually turned by a motor and not the small amount of water falling into it.

Setting
Originally the ride traveled through a remote area of the park that resembled wilderness. Recent development at Lagoon has encroached on the ride's setting. The ride travels past several picnic terraces as well as a bright orange Sit & Smoke Station during its journey.

Past expansion plan
At one time Lagoon had presented plans to the Farmington city council that included an expansion of Log Flume, as well as a new rapids ride. Rattlesnake Rapids was eventually built with a different layout that does not allow for the proposed extension of Log Flume.
If you want a very interesting ride then the Samurai is one that you have to go on. This ride twists and turns you in so many directions that you never know which way you are pointed.

You have one big rotating arm that has a rotating disc at the end. Attached to the rotating disk is six rider arms that can freely rotate as the ride is in motion. Did I lose you? Well, you put that all together and you have one heck of a fun ride.

Don't worry, the experience is very smooth and entertaining. I would definitely recommend this ride
If you want to enjoy a ride that is just as entertaining to watch as it is to be on, than this ride is one that you will have to try while you are at Lagoon. I'm not sure what gets more guests, the ride itself or the midway packed full of people watching all the poor victims on Cliffhanger get drenched.

But I will have to side with the people who watch the ride. It is hilarious to watch the water geysers time themselves with the passing gondola. It guarantees that water falls onto the riders as they pass over where the geysers are located. So if you aren't one that likes to get wet, than stay away from this one.

Cliffhanger had some difficulties to begin with. There were many mechanical aspects of running a ride like this in the environment that Lagoon is located in that wasn't taken into consideration. The result - many days of the ride closed due to various reasons. In fact when the ride was relatively new it was almost always guaranteed to be closed when you showed up to the park. The good news is that Lagoon kept plugging along in working on the ride's issues and eventually got all the bugs and mechanical issues resolved. The ride now runs much more reliably than it did in it's early years.

What make this ride fun is the locking of the seats. The ride locks them and then starts spinning. And you are usually facing the other row of seats when you are locked so you watch them go upside down and they watch you in return. I really like it when it is in swing and it releases the seats going into a free spin mode.

When you are down on the south end of the park, make sure to stop by and try this ride out. And if you are too afraid of the ride, you can always watch.

When Lagoon decided to bring it's coaster count to 6 they didn't want just any roller coaster. They wanted to put a spin on a classic ride and really install something that the guests to the park would like. And so in 2003 Lagoon decided to add the Spider - the first spinning coaster in North America.

This ride starts out with a large spider at the entrance. Every so often it spits out water from it's mouth. This is nice on those really hot days.

The entrance queue has a castle which houses stairs to take those waiting in line up to the loading station. Once at the station you get to choose whether you want to take the lift hill forwards or backwards. Every car has four seats.

After the initial drop you head into the first turn which also contains the release mechanism to start your car spinning. From there the ride gets really fun as the car spins freely as it races through the course. Each car is capable of spinning up to 20 times a minute with the right weight.

This ride has a really fun 82 degree embankment, 360 degree carousel turn, and slalom track. Every ride is unique because the position of the seats are never in the exact spot throughout the entire ride.

And if the line looks long don't worry, it moves at a good pace. When you are in the South end of the park make sure you try this ride out. You will enjoy it!

Interesting Facts
When Lagoon was naming the Spider it was originally going to be called the Spider and the Fly, but for some reason unknown to the LagoonIsFun.com team the name was shortened to just the Spider. One fascinating thing about this though is that the paint job for the Spider cars was completed before the decision to shorten the name occurred. Therefore on each car you can still see "The Spider and the Fly" logo.
In 1965 Lagoon introduced a wild roller coaster ride full of quick drops, tight turns and a whole lot of fun. After many years of operation the aging ride was removed. 10 years later Lagoon decided to bring back a newer steel version of the Wild Mouse coaster and placed it in the exact same spot where the old Wild Mouse stood before it was removed from the park.

If you are looking for a ride that packs a punch then the Wild Mouse would be a good choice for you. The first section of the ride sends the cars racing through a series of switchback turns. After being thrown from side to side the ride then heads into quick dips, more sharp turns, and a trip through the Mouse House.

The ride is quick and packs a lot of fun into a small area. When you are on the South end of the park, don't miss the chance to ride the Wild Mouse.
Air Race takes riders on an amazing journey which replicates the experiences and sensations of an acrobatic aeroplane flight, with banks, loops, dives and weightlessness that will test even the most experienced thrill seekers. Accommodating up to 24 riders at one time in six, four-seater aeroplanes, the new thriller combines an 6 rpm central ride rotation motion with a motor driven arm rotation that allows for the various movements experienced by riders. The action takes place up to 8m above the ground and ‘pilots’ experience accelerations of 3G, right side up and upside down.

The Bat is known as a family type model coaster. Most rides labeled as "family" are designed to allow parents to ride with their young children. The Bat is no exception to this rule. Younger riders and parents now have an opportunity to enjoy a roller coaster together. This is great for those little kids that are tired of Puff and want to move a step up.
KG, and is a "Tivoli" model.

Puff was manufactured by Zierer, and is a "Tivoli" model.

Fire Dragon (sometimes called Colossus The Fire Dragon or Colossus) is a steel double-looping roller coaster.

Ride details
Fire Dragon is a classic steel looping roller coaster designed and built by famed German coaster designer Anton Schwarzkopf. Since it was moved to Lagoon in 1983 it has been one of the more popular rides at Lagoon. In 1984 it was selected by People magazine as one of the top 10 roller coasters in the country. The ride is actually a mobile roller coaster, and initially toured with German traveling fairs after its manufacture in 1981. It is designed to be set up or taken down in a 24 hour period.

The ride features two loops, one after another. When upside-down in the loops 75% of a rider's body weight is pressed against the seat making it impossible for a person to fall out. Properly seated riders would not fall out of the train even if they did not have a lapbar. The lapbar is used to prevent people from standing up, and would hold riders in place in the extremely unlikely event that the train stalls while upside-down (this has never happened).

The ride can operate with up to three trains at one time, and was operated in this mode in the past. At some point the park decided to generally only run a maximum of two trains as an extra safety precaution. On rare occasions when the park is at capacity the park may still choose to safely run three trains.

Fire Dragon is the only "Double Looping with additional trackway curve" model of roller coaster that was ever built. It is very similar to the more common "Double Looping" model (such as Laser at Dorney Park) but has additional helices near the end of the ride.

Seating
Fire Dragon does not allow riders to choose their own seats. Riders will be place in the first available seat starting from the front of the train. Single riders are not allowed to ride in the very front or back seats. They will be asked to move to a different seat.

Name
Fire Dragon was originally named "Colossus" during its days traveling with German fairs. Lagoon changed the ride's name to Fire Dragon so that it would not be confused with the wooden roller coaster of the same name at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Lagoon did not remove the original logos from the trains or the large Colossus sign from the top of the ride's first loop and many people continued to refer to the ride as Colossus. When the ride was installed Lagoon added the word "Fire" to an existing Zamperla "Dragon" sign and placed it at the ride's entrance. This sign has since been replaced with one that reads "Colossus the Fire Dragon".
In 2008 Lagoon introduced OdySea - an interactive water ride designed for the old and young alike. This ride is another in a collection of family rides that Lagoon has been acquiring in an emphasis on their appeal for families.

OdySea is a large flying fish ride that features 12 gondolas (fish) capable of rising 20 feet into the air. Each gondola can carry two people and offers an interactive piloting system making it possible to raise and lower your fish to any desired height. One of the neatest aspects of the fish is a communication system that warns you of approaching spitting fish then notifies the passengers via lighted arrows whether they should climb or dive to avoid getting wet. People who fail to follow direction both purposely and by mistake will find themselves on the receiving end of a refreshing spray of water.

OdySea sits in the location of the old Gaslight Terrace right next to the Opera House and the Bat. With the addition of this ride Lagoon made many improvements to the area and with the removal of the terrace has opened up the area more than ever before. One feature of the area is a new history wall on the building to the west of OdySea that features many old pictures and a brief history of the park.

Surrounding the ride is heavy sea theming designed to enhance the ride's' appeal and offer more excitement to those preparing to ride. And for those of you that want to enjoy OdySea but fear your size may keep you from getting on the ride need not fear. OdySea has Lagoon's first and only test seat making it possible to try out the gondola before getting in line to ride.

Next time you visit Lagoon you have to try out this ride. At least pass through the area and enjoy the beauty of the new ride. OdySea is definitely worth it both in looks and in improvements to a stale area of the park.
Bombora is a steel family roller coaster located at Lagoon.

Ride details
Bombora sits next to Lagoon-A-Beach, and comes complete with a beach/surfer theme to match the location. Additionally, the trains come complete with detailed theming, lighting, and an onboard audio system that randomly plays one of six beach-themed songs while a train runs its course. When both trains are in use, the coaster has an hourly capacity of 950 riders per hour.

Lagoon designed BomBora to be a family coaster, and BomBora joins Lagoon’s increasing family-ride lineup making it possible for families of all types to enjoy many of Lagoon’s rides together. BomBora sits at a height of 50 feet and reaches a top speed of 31 miles per hour. The size and speed of the coaster make it possible for the smaller kids to enjoy without the thrill of the ride being too much for them, but do not let BomBora’s lack of height and speed give you the idea that this is not a fun coaster. BomBora still has plenty of quick drops and turns that provide a surprising thrill to those who ride. Throw in a beach-themed song to compliment your ride, and you have a recipe for fun for all ages! In fact, many first-time riders express surprise at the thrill and fun that BomBora provides despite the look of the coaster.

The word Bombora is actually an Australian term. According to Wikipedia, “Bombora is an indigenous Australian term for an area of large sea waves breaking over a shallow area such as a submerged rock shelf, reef or sand bank that is located some distance from the shoreline and beach surf break”. The term is fitting for the theme and location of the new roller coaster. The blue track and cream supports also fit the coloring of some of the slides in Lagoon-A-Beach. Lagoon created this new coaster to fit in well with the beach and provide a new look to the water park’s skyline.

Audio Tracks
The ride's trains feature on-board audio that plays one of six surf tracks at random during the ride. The tracks are:
* The Beach Boys - Surfin Safari
* The Beach Boys - Surfin USA
* The Beach boys - Catch A Wave
* The Surfaris - Wipeout
* Jan & Dean - Ride The Wild Surf
* The Drums - Let's Go Surfing
