I had a really cool page created a long time ago before the wiki that featured Putter Around the Park. I need to see if I can find all the info I had on the course and recreate it here on the wiki. [[user:Willenator]]

The lapbar is used to prevent people from standing up, and would hold riders in place in the extremely unlikely event that the train stalls while upside-down (this has never happened).

The ride can operate with up to three trains at one time, and was operated in this mode in the past. At some point the park decided to generally only run a maximum of two trains as an extra safety precaution. On rare occasions when the park is at capacity the park may still choose to safely run three trains.

Colossus The Fire Dragon is the only "Double Looping with additional trackway curve" model of roller coaster that was ever built. It is very similar to the more common "Double Looping" model (such as Laser at Dorney Park) but has additional helices near the end of the ride.

When the ride was installed Lagoon added the word 'Fire' to a [[Zamperla]] 'Dragon' sign and placed it at the ride's entrance. This sign has since been replaced with Yesco sign with the ride's full name.

The lapbar is used to prevent people from standing up, and would hold riders in place in the extremely unlikely event that the train stalls while upside-down (this has never happened).

The ride can operate with up to three trains at one time, and was operated in this mode in the past. At some point the park decided to generally only run a maximum of two trains as an extra safety precaution. Before Frightmares opened for the year, a new door appeared on the wall to the north of Game Time with a speaker over it. The Séance sign was moved closer to the door indicating that this would be the entrance to the new show. Lagoon eventually updated their website with the description:

Guests are not allowed to get up or leave once the show has started for safety reasons. Due to the intensely frightening content of the show, it is not recommended for younger audiences or those who scare easily. It was reported during the first year that some participants were brought to tears during the performance.

A sign was placed near Game Time with a picture of a woman with a doll, the word Séance, and the question "Can you keep a secret?" Not much was revealed about the show, and the sign was the only indicator that something was coming. Before Frightmares opened for the year, a new door appeared on the wall to the north of Game Time with a speaker over it. The Séance sign was moved closer to the door indicating that this would be the entrance to the new show. Lagoon eventually updated their website with the description:

This fully immersive haunted experience blends chilling live performance, intense physical effects and unexpected audience participation. In this multi-sensory experience, guests are thrust into the action as a simple ghost story comes to life!

For the show's initial season, the theater was accessed through a simple door with two dead potted plants on either side of it located at the end of a former midway game building. For the 2018 season an all-new spooky house facade was built around the building creating the impression that this door is the front door to the house. The facade appears to have been partially based on commercially available dollhouses. At night, light emits from the house's windows. A ticket booth for the show was also built into the facade, previously tickets were purchased at the Dippin' Dots stand near the show's entrance.

==Ride Details==
Riders sit in small vehicles and travel around a track viewing different frightening and interesting scenes with a few surprises that may startle some riders. The ride was originally designed and built by legendary dark ride creator [[Bill Tracy]]. It is one of only seven known Bill Tracy dark rides still in operation ([[Dracula's Castle]] is also one of the seven). The ride was heavily remodeled for the 2017 season and the ride was given the additional title ''Terroride: A classic reimagined''.

===Vehicles===
The ride's single-row vehicles are a customized version of Tracy's [[hushpuppy]] vehicles. They have rounded noses and concave backs that allow them to fit together tightly, creating more room in the station. They feature on-board speakers that originally played a scary soundtrack for the ride but no longer do. The cars are painted different colors, but the colors are very dark and mostly appear black. A white skull is painted on the side of each car, next to the car's number in blue.

===Facade===
The ride has a castle-like facade with a large skeleton and a witch that pop out from shutters in the castle's two turrets. There are colorful, blood spattered letters spelling out "Terroride" on the front of the ride with the letter O represented by a stylized skull with red, light-up eyes. The other letters rock back and forth and are lit from inside at night. A signature Bill Tracy vulture prop is perched in a nest atop the southern turret. The vulture's head moves up and down in sync with the facade's other animations. Large open archways in the castle facade allow the station and its mural to be seen from outside the ride. A prop dead tree sits on the ride's roof.

===Layout===
In addition to taking up the space in the building behind the ride's facade, the track also travels into the space behind the midway game to the south. The layout of the ride was not changed during the ride's 2017 re-imagining.

The full ride is around 1 minute and 16 seconds long.

== Terroride: A Classic Reimagined ==
In 2017 Lagoon completed the biggest overhaul of Terroride in the ride's history. The project has been called ''Terroride: A Classic Reimagined'' by the park. The ride quietly opened for riders in an incomplete state on June 9th 2007. The ride's official grand opening celebration was held on July 14th, 2017 at noon.

===Ride Changes===
The ride's interior was completely rebuilt. Many of the ride's black walls were replaced with more detailed, realistic scenery. Several new scenes and gags were created and many of the original props and gags were also kept, repaired and/or upgraded. The plexiglass and chicken wire that previously separated riders from the props was removed giving a more direct view of the scenery.

A number of doorways were added to the ride clearly dividing it into separate scenes. The ride is intended to be slightly more story oriented than before and features a recurring character who has been referred to by the names ''Louis Von Black'', ''Mr. Terror'' and ''Mr. Torture''. A single figure of this character has always been in the ride but he has been duplicated and given more attention as part of the re-imagining.

A headstone for Bill Tracy, a hidden "Lagoon", and potentially more Easter eggs have been added to the ride.

A copy of the ride's original mural was returned to the station with small changes made to it. The faces of the various monsters on the mural have been highlighted with theatrical lighting. The ride's exit and entrance doors have been decorated with three-dimensional skulls and crossbones protruding from each door. The skulls on the doors are also highlighted with theatrical lighting. The doors appear to have automatic opener/closers added to them and no longer rely on the vehicle hitting them to open. Lanterns have been added above the ride's queue line. The animatronic vulture has been moved to the wall next to the ride operator.

== Mural ==
The station houses a large, multi-panel mural depicting a large dragon, a club-wielding caveman, flying ghouls, a mummified skeleton, an octopus, a snake in a tree, a lizard, a monkey and two spiders in front of an ancient-looking ruined city under a starry night sky. The current mural is a copy of the original that was hand painted by Bill Tracy.

===Absence===
In 2010 The original mural was moved to Lagoon's [[annex building]] in an area not open to the public. It was replaced by a different mural showing a forest of dead trees. Actual dead trees were placed directly in front of the mural to form a 3D-like effect. An animatronic talking vulture was placed inside a square opening in the center of the mural. The original mural was missed by many people who had grown up with it and its absence had been covered in local news stories. A copy of the original mural was restored to the station as part of the 2017 re-imagining and theatrical lighting was strategically placed to highlight specific parts of it.

=== Dancing Man ===

A dancing man was included in the original mural, but was painted out of the 2017 copy. This appears to be the only significant change made to the mural. The dancing man is likely based on photographs of actor Geoffrey Holder from the 1950's.

=== Oddities ===
There are several subtle oddities within the mural. There are rounded outlines that sometimes affect the things painted on either side of them. The dancing man represents the intersection of two of these shapes, and this gives him the appearance of having a magical connection to his surroundings. The most visible of these is an oval outline in the center of the painting. Where this line passes through a building, the surface of the building is different depending on which side of the line it is on. There is a green area within this outline that has 3D shapes that are out of sync with the rest of the geometry in the painting. Other impossible geometry and surface affecting outlines can be seen in the doorways on either side of the painting.

Terroride's vehicles were originally wooden hushpuppy vehicles that were shaped like coffins, similar to the vehicles for Trimper's Haunted House and Legend City's Lost Dutchman mine ride. It is unknown when and why they were replaced by the current fiberglass vehicles.

The following items are known to have been removed from the ride:

* A scene described as 'quicksand corner' showing a person or people sinking in quicksand was removed in the 1980's
* A large standing three dimensional rabid looking rat was removed in 2007
* [[the gorilla|A gorilla]] with a city skyline painted behind him was in the ride from approximately 1989 to 2008
* An alien that replaced the gorilla after 1989 was later removed
* The ride's original mural was removed in 2010
* A replacement mural of dead trees and actual dead trees were located in the station from 2010 to 2016

===2013 improvements===
In the off-season of 2012-2013, Lagoon removed the back wall of the building to make repairs to the structure and foundation. Around 5-10 feet of the ride was removed temporarily while crews worked to build the new exterior. After the new wall was completed, this area was rebuilt including new flooring and a re-welded section of track.

Once the construction was completed, Lagoon's electrical department rebuilt the ride's safety and control system. This brought the ride into compliance with the most recent fire safety standards.

===Ride alteration===
A copyrighted 1968 picture of members of the band Jefferson Airplane riding Terroride with its original vehicles shows that either the current exit door is not original to the ride, or the ride layout has been changed in some way. This picture can be seen in the KUED documentary ''Lagoon: Rock and Rollercoasters''.

==Controversy==

*In 2014 a local therapist campaigned for Lagoon to make changes to the torture room scene, saying that the scene had triggered unpleasant feelings in one of his clients. Lagoon agreed to talk with him about the issue. The 2017 re-imagining kept this scenery mostly in tact, but the women in the scene now wear less revealing clothing.

*Although there were no reports of complaints about the mural's dancing man in local media, he was removed from the mural that was placed in the station for the 2017 re-imagining. This may have been due to concerns about depicting an African man together with several things that might seem scary.

== About the park ==
Lagoon is home to several [[Roller Coasters|roller coasters]], a wide assortment of [[rides]], a waterpark ([[Lagoon-A-Beach]]), a historic [[Pioneer Village]], live [[entertainment]], expansive picnic grounds, a small [[Wild Kingdom Zoo|zoo]], gardens, [[games]] and other [[attractions]]. The park hosts a haunted Halloween event ([[Frightmares]]) in the fall. There is a park operated [[Lagoon Campground|campground]] and indoor tennis facilities adjacent to the park. A public [[Lagoon Trail|walking trail]] that was built by the park runs along its perimeter.

Lagoon is the only true amusement park in the state of Utah.

== History ==

When people first arrived in the Salt Lake valley they found that the salt content in the Great Salt Lake would cause swimmers to float like a cork. Bathing resorts popped up on the shores of the lake, and visitors were drawn to this strange phenomenon. In 1886 a resort called Lake Park opened on the eastern shore of the lake. The centerpiece of Lake Park was it's open air dancing pavilion. Lake Park was considered to be the best bathing resort on the lake.

Lake Park flourished until 1893, when the waters of the Great Salt Lake receded leaving Lake Park with no lake, only mud. The owners were forced to close the park. The park sat vacant for the next three years. In 1896 the entire resort, including it's dancing pavilion, was moved several miles to the east next to a [[The_lagoon|man-made pond]] and a new park, "Lagoon" was born.

When Lagoon first opened it was faced with fierce competition from the new LDS church owned Saltair bathing resort. Lagoon built a Shoot the Chutes attraction and offered swimming in filtered water (instead of the foul smelling Salt Lake) to help draw the crowds away from Saltair. The competition forced Lagoon to grow rapidly, they added new gardens, swimming pools and colored lights. In 1921 [[Roller Coaster]] was added to compete with Saltair's new Giant Racer.

The park continued to grow for several years, a fun house, indoor dance hall and mechanical rides were added. Then, in 1953 fire broke out. The fun house and dance hall were destroyed and the roller coaster was damaged. Luckily, Lagoon took little time in rebuilding and improving the park.

In 1957, when Saltair's 110 foot Giant Racer roller coaster was blown down in a 75mph wind gust, the resort could not afford to rebuild it. The 1958 season was one of the worst financial years Saltair had faced. The resort was forced to close it's doors in 1959.

In 1987 Lagoon celebrated its 100th birthday with the addition of [[Centennial Screamer]] and [[Turn of the Century]]

The Lake park terrace was torn down in 2005 to make room for [[The Bat]]. However, the gazebo that sat on the top of the terrace still remains at Lagoon, and is known as the Rose Terrace.

==Ride Manufacturing==
Lagoon has been the primary manufacturer and designer of two of its roller coasters, [[Cannibal]] and [[Bombora]]. Lagoon hired contractors to perform some of the work, such as the fabrication of track and supports. Most ride manufacturers also hire contractors to perform this type of work. It is unusual for a park to design and manufacture its own rides, with the notable exception of Disney parks.

'''Lagoon Trail''' is a section of the Farmington River Trail that runs around the outside perimeter of Lagoon.

==Origins==
In 1991 Lagoon made an agreement with the City of Farmington to create a public trail through its property in exchange for parts of the public road 'Lagoon Lane' which ran along the back of the park. The trail would be part of the Farmington River trail being built by the city. The north section of the trail opened in 1993 or 1994. The south end may have opened around 1997.

==Points of interest==
There are several unique things that can be seen from the trail, including the following:
* Scrapped materials from former Lagoon attractions.
* Remnants and ruins of very old buildings and dwellings.
* A zoo exhibit that was originally part of the [[Pioneer Village Railroad]] which can no longer be seen from anywhere within Lagoon. It still houses animals.
* Lagoon's greenhouse for plants used by the groundskeepers.
* Bridges that were once crossed by the Pioneer Village Railroad
* Back side of [[Rattlesnake Rapids]] which allows you to see aspects of the ride that are not visible from inside the park.

'''Hydro Luge''' was a water-coaster style ride created by WhiteWater that sat on the north end of the park from 1994 to 2017. Hydro Luge was removed to make way for future expansion on the north end.

==Ride Description==

WhiteWater refers to this ride as a "water coaster." However, the style of the ride is closer to that of a luge instead of a coaster, so the name Hydro Luge worked for the ride very well. Hydro Luge consisted of a tower with two slides: one side was blue and the other black. Ride vehicles were blue rafts that could fit one or two people. The rafts were sent to the top of the tower using a conveyor belt where the tower operators would place a raft on a smaller conveyor belt used to advance the raft into the slide. Once riders were situated in the raft and ready to go, the operator would push a button to start their ride. At the bottom of the tower, run-out operators would direct guests to exit the raft after stopping, place the raft back onto the conveyor belt, and then signal the tower operator that it was safe to send another raft.

Each slide offered riders a slightly different experience. If you wanted to enjoy the ride and see the upcoming turns and drops, the blue slide was the one you wanted to ride. Many first-time riders chose the blue slide because it appeared tamer. The black slide was for thrill seekers. Riders could not see the turns and drops, so it made the experience much more terrifying as you were flying along in your raft in the dark. Between the two slides, the blue one was considered to be the slide to ride if your main goal was to get wet.

==Ride Removal==

Lagoon removed Hydro Luge at the end of the 2017 operating season to open up the area for future addition and expansion. The ride began to be removed during the final weeks of Frightmares.

==Ride Details==
Riders sit in small vehicles and travel around a track viewing different frightening and interesting scenes with a few surprises that may startle some riders. The ride was originally designed and built by legendary dark ride creator [[Bill Tracy]]. It is one of only seven known Bill Tracy dark rides still in operation ([[Dracula's Castle]] is also one of the seven). The ride was heavily remodeled for the 2017 season and the ride was given the additional title ''Terroride: A classic reimagined''.

===Vehicles===
The ride's single-row vehicles are a customized version of Tracy's [[hushpuppy]] vehicles. They have rounded noses and concave backs that allow them to fit together tightly, creating more room in the station. They feature on-board speakers that originally played a scary soundtrack for the ride but no longer do. The cars are painted different colors, but the colors are very dark and mostly appear black. A white skull is painted on the side of each car, next to the car's number in blue.

===Facade===
The ride has a castle-like facade with a large skeleton and a witch that pop out from shutters in the castle's two turrets. There are colorful, blood spattered letters spelling out "Terroride" on the front of the ride with the letter O represented by a stylized skull with red, light-up eyes. The other letters rock back and forth and are lit from inside at night. A signature Bill Tracy vulture prop is perched in a nest atop the southern turret. The vulture's head moves up and down in sync with the facade's other animations. Large open archways in the castle facade allow the station and its mural to be seen from outside the ride. A prop dead tree sits on the ride's roof.

===Layout===
In addition to taking up the space in the building behind the ride's facade, the track also travels into the space behind the midway game to the south. The layout of the ride was not changed during the ride's 2017 re-imagining.

The full ride is around 1 minute and 16 seconds long.

== Terroride: A Classic Reimagined ==
In 2017 Lagoon completed the biggest overhaul of Terroride in the ride's history. The project has been called ''Terroride: A Classic Reimagined'' by the park. The ride quietly opened for riders in an incomplete state on June 9th 2007. The ride's official grand opening celebration was held on July 14th, 2017 at noon.

===Ride Changes===
The ride's interior was completely rebuilt. Many of the ride's black walls were replaced with more detailed, realistic scenery. Several new scenes and gags were created and many of the original props and gags were also kept, repaired and/or upgraded. The plexiglass and chicken wire that previously separated riders from the props was removed giving a more direct view of the scenery.

A number of doorways were added to the ride clearly dividing it into separate scenes. The ride is intended to be slightly more story oriented than before and features a recurring character who has been referred to by the names ''Louis Von Black'', ''Mr. Terror'' and ''Mr. Torture''. A headstone for Bill Tracy and other Easter eggs have been added.

A copy of the ride's original mural was returned to the station with small changes made to it. The faces of the various monsters on the mural have been highlighted with theatrical lighting. The ride's exit and entrance doors have been decorated with three-dimensional skulls and crossbones protruding from each door. The skulls on the doors are also highlighted with theatrical lighting. The doors appear to have automatic opener/closers added to them and no longer rely on the vehicle hitting them to open. Lanterns have been added above the ride's queue line. The animatronic vulture has been moved to the wall next to the ride operator.

== Mural ==
The station houses a large, multi-panel mural depicting a large dragon, a club-wielding caveman, flying ghouls, a mummified skeleton, an octopus, a snake in a tree, a lizard, a monkey and two spiders in front of an ancient-looking ruined city under a starry night sky. The current mural is a copy of the original that was hand painted by Bill Tracy.

===Absence===
In 2010 The original mural was moved to Lagoon's [[annex building]] in an area not open to the public. It was replaced by a different mural showing a forest of dead trees. Actual dead trees were placed directly in front of the mural to form a 3D-like effect. An animatronic talking vulture was placed inside a square opening in the center of the mural. The original mural was missed by many people who had grown up with it and its absence had been covered in local news stories. A copy of the original mural was restored to the station as part of the 2017 re-imagining and theatrical lighting was strategically placed to highlight specific parts of it.

=== Dancing Man ===

A dancing man was included in the original mural, but was painted out of the 2017 copy. This appears to be the only significant change made to the mural. The dancing man is likely based on photographs of actor Geoffrey Holder from the 1950's.

=== Oddities ===
There are several subtle oddities within the mural. There are rounded outlines that sometimes affect the things painted on either side of them. The dancing man represents the intersection of two of these shapes, and this gives him the appearance of having a magical connection to his surroundings. The most visible of these is an oval outline in the center of the painting. Where this line passes through a building, the surface of the building is different depending on which side of the line it is on. There is a green area within this outline that has 3D shapes that are out of sync with the rest of the geometry in the painting. Other impossible geometry and surface affecting outlines can be seen in the doorways on either side of the painting.

In the off-season of 2012-2013, Lagoon removed the back wall of the building to make repairs to the structure and foundation. Around 5-10 feet of the ride was removed temporarily while crews worked to build the new exterior. Once the construction was completed, Lagoon's electrical department rebuilt the ride's safety and control system. This brought the ride into compliance with the most recent fire safety standards.

*Although there were no reports of complaints about the mural's dancing man in local media, he was removed from the mural that was placed in the station for the 2017 re-imagining. This may have been due to concerns about depicting an African man together with several things that might seem scary.

'''Terroride''' (also known as '''Terroride: A Classic Reimagined''' as of 2017) is Lagoon's oldest haunted attraction still in operation. It is one of two dark rides at the park.

==Ride Details==
Riders sit in small vehicles and travel around a track viewing different frightening and interesting scenes with a few surprises that may startle some riders. The ride was originally designed and built by legendary dark ride creator [[Bill Tracy]]. It is one of only seven known Bill Tracy dark rides still in operation ([[Dracula's Castle]] is also one of the seven). The ride was heavily remodeled for the 2017 season and the ride was given the additional title ''Terroride: A classic reimagined''.

===Vehicles===
The ride's single-row vehicles are a customized version of Tracy's [[hushpuppy]] vehicles. They have rounded noses and concave backs that allow them to fit together tightly, creating more room in the station. They feature on-board speakers that originally played a scary soundtrack for the ride but no longer do. The cars are painted different colors, but the colors are very dark and mostly appear black. A white skull is painted on the side of each car, next to the car's number in blue.

===Facade===
The ride has a castle-like facade with a large skeleton and a witch that pop out from shutters in the castle's two turrets. There are colorful, blood spattered letters spelling out "Terroride" on the front of the ride with the letter O represented by a stylized skull with red, light-up eyes. The other letters rock back and forth and are lit from inside at night. A signature Bill Tracy vulture prop is perched in a nest atop the southern turret. The vulture's head moves up and down in sync with the facade's other animations. Large open archways in the castle facade allow the station and its mural to be seen from outside the ride. A prop dead tree sits on the ride's roof.

===Layout===
In addition to taking up the space in the building behind the ride's facade, the track also travels into the space behind the midway game to the south. The layout of the ride was not changed during the ride's 2017 re-imagining.

The full ride is around 1 minute and 16 seconds long.

== Terroride: A Classic Reimagined ==
In 2017 Lagoon completed the biggest overhaul of Terroride in the ride's history. The project has been called ''Terroride: A Classic Reimagined'' by the park. The ride quietly opened for riders in an incomplete state on June 9th 2007. The ride's official grand opening celebration was held on July 14th, 2017 at noon.

===Ride Changes===
The ride's interior was completely rebuilt. Many of the ride's black walls were replaced with more detailed, realistic scenery. Several new scenes and gags were created and many of the original props and gags were also kept, repaired and/or upgraded. The plexiglass and chicken wire that previously separated riders from the props was removed giving a more direct view of the scenery.

A number of doorways were added to the ride clearly dividing it into separate scenes. The ride is intended to be slightly more story oriented than before and features a recurring character who has been referred to by the names ''Louis Von Black'', ''Mr. Terror'' and ''Mr. Torture''. A headstone for Bill Tracy and other Easter eggs have been added.

A copy of the ride's original mural was returned to the station with small changes made to it. The faces of the various monsters on the mural have been highlighted with theatrical lighting. The ride's exit and entrance doors have been decorated with three-dimensional skulls and crossbones protruding from each door. The skulls on the doors are also highlighted with theatrical lighting. The doors appear to have automatic opener/closers added to them and no longer rely on the vehicle hitting them to open. Lanterns have been added above the ride's queue line. The animatronic vulture has been moved to the wall next to the ride operator.

== Mural ==
The station houses a large, multi-panel mural depicting a large dragon, a club-wielding caveman, flying ghouls, a mummified skeleton, an octopus, a snake in a tree, a lizard, a monkey and two spiders in front of an ancient-looking ruined city under a starry night sky. The current mural is a copy of the original that was hand painted by Bill Tracy.

===Absence===
In 2010 The original mural was moved to Lagoon's [[annex building]] in an area not open to the public. It was replaced by a different mural showing a forest of dead trees. Actual dead trees were placed directly in front of the mural to form a 3D-like effect. An animatronic talking vulture was placed inside a square opening in the center of the mural. The original mural was missed by many people who had grown up with it and its absence had been covered in local news stories. A copy of the original mural was restored to the station as part of the 2017 re-imagining and theatrical lighting was strategically placed to highlight specific parts of it.

=== Dancing Man ===

A dancing man was included in the original mural, but was painted out of the 2017 copy. This appears to be the only significant change made to the mural. The dancing man is likely based on photographs of actor Geoffrey Holder from the 1950's.

=== Oddities ===
There are several subtle oddities within the mural. There are rounded outlines that sometimes affect the things painted on either side of them. The dancing man represents the intersection of two of these shapes, and this gives him the appearance of having a magical connection to his surroundings. The most visible of these is an oval outline in the center of the painting. Where this line passes through a building, the surface of the building is different depending on which side of the line it is on. There is a green area within this outline that has 3D shapes that are out of sync with the rest of the geometry in the painting. Other impossible geometry and surface affecting outlines can be seen in the doorways on either side of the painting.

Terroride's vehicles were originally wooden hushpuppy vehicles that were shaped like coffins, similar to the vehicles for Trimper's Haunted House and Legend City's Lost Dutchman mine ride. It is unknown when and why they were replaced by the current fiberglass vehicles.
